Life in an micro apartment

The pendulum swings back and forth, but usually in moderation. In the case of housing the pendulum has swung back and forth to extremes. We have went from McMansions to tiny micro apartments and they are getting smaller and smaller. Just when you thought a 325 square foot was the smallest space anyone could realistically… [Continue Reading]

Essential to the communities on Lake Keowee is their isolation. When you’re in a community like The Reserve, one simply feels that they are a million miles away from the stress of the city. The tradeoff of course is that there isn’t a McDonald’s available around the corner for quick meals. While The Reserve does… [Continue Reading]

Applying for social security online the easy way

By: ProgressOhio

After she was injured on the job and was told she could no longer work because of the disability it caused, my mother was struggling to make ends meet for our family. She had planned on having several more years of work before retiring, and while she had started to save up she had not yet saved as much as she had hoped to over the length of her time working. We began to look into the options that were available for financial assistance and were surprised to learn there were quite a few Social Security disability choices at our fingertips.

We first visited the Social Security application site and found out that when you apply, there are three different benefits packages you can apply for. Depending on your situation, one of more of these may be the right choice for you. The application process can be long and tedious – people often get denied if they do not have all the proper information. The best thing to do is research the program as much as possible and work with a third party company for help if you can.

Supplemental Security Income, also called SSI, is a federally funded income supplementation program that is funded by all taxpayers across the country. This is intended for people who are elderly, legally disabled, or blind and have little to no income. It provides the beneficiary with a monthly income allowance to help cover costs of food, clothing, housing, and other basic needs. As laws change, eligibility for this program can fluctuate so it is very important to be as prepared as possible. SSI applications are often denied and have to be appealed.

Benefits for Children with Disabilities is a type of SSI coverage – however, it is only for children under 18 years old. Since children cannot be gainfully employed, eligibility is determined differently. A child is defined as having a disability if he or she has a mental or physical condition that severely limits their activities, has lasted or will last more than 12 months or could result in death. The household income where the child lives is also considered – there is often a lot of proof required for this type of insurance to be rewarded.

Finally, there is Social Security Disability Insurance, funded through payroll taxes throughout your lifetime. If you haven’t worked at all, you won’t quality for much; if you’ve had a high-paying job for many years, you’ll be eligible for more. The amount you’ll receive varies – the best idea is to go online and use the benefits calculator to determine your social security disability benefits amount. Most of the time this insurance provides benefits for children and a spouse.

You have undoubtedly heard it said many times before; it is a commonly used ad slogan for tourism, come for vacation and you will want to stay forever. In many cases once you get there you may find that to be a complete and utter exaggeration but when it comes to Discover Bay it is the absolute truth. Many people who visit this amazing place end up buying property in Discover Bay which is located on the east coast of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. It is an incredible paradise. The most striking thing you will notice is the peaceful quiet. Private motor vehicles are not permitted, but it is not difficult to get around thanks to a superb public transport system. Many residents chose to get around on electric golf carts or bicycles.

Discovery Bay is the eye of the hurricane, the calm center with green spaces and beautiful wide beaches surrounded by the hectic fast pace of Hong Kong, Kowloon and Hong Kong Disneyland which is only 2km away. It is the perfect way to enjoy the best of both worlds, you can be surrounded by peace and tranquility at home but when you want to enjoy the best things that the city has to offer it is not far away.

Not only is the scenery and atmosphere spectacular there is so much to do that you will never be bored. Whether you love to cook, write, participate in any of a wide variety of sports, or love the arts and music there is always something going on. If you love to swing a golf club on occasion you will appreciate the 27-hole golf course. When you are ready to get out and do something make your first stop http://www.arounddb.com/  and you will find up to date information about what’s going on and what’s coming up so you can get out there and enjoy all that Discovery Bay has to offer.

Making Discovery Bay your home is an easy choice, but deciding whether you want to rent or buy may not be so easy. Of course, there are advantages and disadvantages to both, and much of the decision will be dependent on your personal situation but whichever way you decide to go a great place to start is Around DB magazine. This site has a wealth of information about both properties for sale and rental properties as well as all things Discovery Bay.

13 Things to Do When You Move House

By: Chris Waits

Follow these 13 simple steps and moving home will be calm and stress free. They say that during your life you will never experience anything as stressful as moving house. These 13 steps will ensure you don’t overlook anything.

  1. Your tax record will need to be update according to the area you live in. Therefore, you will need to notify the council. If you’re moving to an area ruled by a diverse council you will want to make both councils conscious of your move.
  2. The charity shop will be grateful to receive all your old clutter. Recycle or throw away anything that isn’t suitable to be sold. Do not bring in any unwanted items into your new home.
  3. People to give your new address to:
  • Friends & family
  • Banks & building societies
  • Credit card suppliers
  • Cover suppliers
  • DVLA
  • Inland revenue
  • National insurance
  • Health cover
  • TV license
  • Mobile provider
  • Any subscriptions you hold
  • Store loyalty card
  1. You’ve been very organised and packed everything into boxes according to room. However, when you arrive at your new home all you want to do is relax with a cup of tea. That’s when the drama starts because you end up opening every box looking for the kettle and a mug. We recommend making up one box with all the essentials you are going to need as soon as you arrive in your new home.
  2. Take gas and power readings before you leave your old home and once you arrive at your new household.
  3. Check that you haven’t left something behind in your old household in rooms you hardly ever use.
  4. Notify your present energy supplier that you are moving household and whether you’ll be continuing to use their facility in your new household.
  5. Your broadband and telephone supplier will need to be aware of your move if you intend on using their services in your new home.
  6. Some items are heavy even though they’re small. Take that into account when packing boxes by making sure they can be lifted without causing injury.
  7. Order a removals van to take all your big pieces of gear to your new household.
  8. Get your post forwarded. Although you will try to inform every one of your move, you might not get round to them all. Therefore, keep the forwarding system open for 6 months. You don’t know who will be moving into your old home any they may open your post and access a host of your personal information. There will be a very small fee to pay but for your peace of mind we recommend it.
  9. Your insurance company can refuse to pay out if you have a car accident and you haven’t informed them of your move. Therefore, it is wise to change the address on your car insurance policy as quickly as possible to avoid any trouble.
  10. Children can add to the stress of moving. Until the house is really to live in, have your children stay with family or friends.
